Immigrants around Canada are celebrating Canada’s 150th birthday in creative ways: newcomer artist and designer Farida Talaat recently designed and create two artworks, one in the shape of the Canadian flag adorned with tiny red buttons, beads and bows. The other is a modern stitch art canvas depicting the Canada 150 logo in thousands of tiny colourful stitches.

The works have taken Talaat more than four months of labour and detailed embroidery, testifying to the young designer’s love for her adopted country.

“I wanted to express my love and appreciation for a county I call home through my art.  Canada is a nation that has demonstrated extreme positive tolerance, and its multiculturalism is a source of human inspiration. This art is my way of wishing Canada a very happy birthday,” says the immigrant of Egyptian roots.
