Breaking Barriers: ACCES Employment’s ODSP Program Paving the Way to Inclusive Careers

Suzana Belan, the Director of Services and Community Engagement for York Region at ACCES Employment underscores ACCES Employment’s core mission, “Our program and its offerings are specifically designed to support and enhance employment readiness, skill development, and job placements of jobseekers on ODSP.”

The program goes beyond conventional job placement services and instead offers a comprehensive array of specialized career support services. From customized job search assistance and networking opportunities to resume development, LinkedIn profile building, and interview preparation, ACCES is committed to nurturing a journey toward long-term employment retention.

Although in its initial stages, the program’s impact is already palpable shares Suzana, “Our clients receive wrap-around supports to enable them to be job ready, including transportation, work clothing, work equipment, and support with technology.” The early program success stories are promising, instilling confidence that many more clients will find meaningful employment in the coming months and years.
ACCES-ODSP sets itself apart with its tailored support services. The program offers personalized assistance, job coaching, skills training, and ongoing support during the job search process. Additionally, it demonstrates a keen understanding of the diverse needs of individuals with disabilities, fostering partnerships and providing accessible resources and tools.

Community engagement plays a pivotal role in raising awareness about the availability of the program. To reach as many clients as possible, ACCES has been actively collaborating with various community organizations, hosting presentations, and workshops, and partnering with entities like the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA). These engagements serve not only to inform potential participants but also to foster a sense of community support.

ACCES emphasizes continuous improvement through regular check-ins and surveys at key employment milestones. One example of this expansion is the partnership with the local ODSP office, Skills Trades Training Centre, and MentorAbility, offering participants valuable workspace experience before making career decisions.
